Babies are here.

Jinx has a beautiful litter of 4 babies. Two boys and two girls. All are active and nursing well.

One cream girl 5 oz, one cream boy, 4&1/2 oz, one brown/white girl 5 oz, and one tricolour male at 6 oz. Only have a few pictures for you to take a peek. The girls are on the red blanket and the boys are on the blue. More coming tomorrow.

The stork has arrived

We have two boys and two girls so far.
We'll take some pictures later when everyone is settled.

Soon

Today may be the day. Jinx is getting very restless and uncomfortable. She is spending all her time in her whelping bed resting and fluffing up her bed. She is not in labour yet but may be soon. We'll let you know when there is news to tell, perhaps this afternoon or tonight.

No news yet

We know you may be impatienlty waiting for news, just as we are to have something to tell you. There is no news to report yet. We are still waiting for Jinx babies to arrive. Remember that the due date is not an exact date. Just as in humans, puppies may be born a little before or a little after their due date.

Countdown begins

Suddenly, 8&1/2 weeks have passed and there are only a few days to go. Jinx is likley to have her babies anytime within the next 3 to 5 days. She is getting a little restless. More time is spent in her nest where she will have her babies as she fluffs up the blankets just to her liking. She is still eating but only very small meals. Stay tuned.

Getting closer

Today we set up Jinx's whelping box. It is in a quiet, dark cozy corner, where she can be comfortable and feel secure and away from the other dogs. She will spend a lot of time there in the next few days in prepartion for her babies arrival next week.

Only 10 days to go

10 days left, more or less. Just like humans, dogs do not always have their babies on their due date and may be a little early or a little late. Jinx babies could arrive a few days before or after her due date of March 30th. She is spending a lot of time grooming herself. The babies are taking up so much room, that she cannot eat full meals anymore so her food is split up into three smaller meals throughout the day. Jinx spends a lot of her time in her crate or favourite bed fluffing up the bedding and sleeping. She loves to lie on her back with her puppy belly up in the air. She sort of looks like a fat sausage.

Feeding the Momma to be

For a couple of weeks earlier in her pregnancy, Jinx had a little bit of morning sickness and was off her kibble for a while. We tempted her with tasty things she would eat. Her favourites are chicken necks, beef , satin balls and one particular type of biscuit. Even though the morning sickness is now past, she still likes her special treats and expects one every day. We are being careful to keep her diet balanced and increasing her food slowly to meet the needs of her growing family. To date Jinx has gained a pound and a half over her pre-pregnancy weight. We anticipate that she will gain about 3 pounds altogether through her pregnancy.

Sunny Days

Jinx loves being outdoors. As Spring arrives, she is spending as much time outside as she can. Jinx is not impressed with the wet soggy yard and prefers to keep herself dry. On sunny afternoons you can find her sunning herself on the deck. Otherwise she has found a comfy nest in the sunroom and spends hours cuddled in our giant papasan chair. Hopefully she will not decide to have her puppies there!

Ultrasound

Jinx unltrasound showed four puppies. Ultrasound is great for diagnosing and monitoring a pregnancy but not always accurate as to numbers. Puppies hiding up in the rib cage cannot always be seen. Even though there are 4 puppies visible on the ultrasound, we still do not know exactly how many puppies will be born. Four are pretty sure but there may be one or two more waiting to surprise us. Only time will tell.

Three weeks to go

Nine weeks sure goes by quickly compared to nine months. Jinx is already well past half way through her pregnancy and only has three weeks to go. She is gaining weight steadily and is very definitley looking pregnant now. When she is resting quietly, we can feel small flutters of movement.
